12+ Long Hair Hairstyles I’m Completely Obsessed With Rn

Okay, let’s be totally real for a second. Having long hair is a literal blessing and a curse.

Some days I wake up feeling like an actual goddess with all this beautiful length, and other days I look in the mirror and just see a giant, tangled bird’s nest. I swear I spend half my life buying conditioner because my hair just drinks it up. But seriously, finding cute long hair hairstyles that don’t take three hours to do is such a struggle. I usually just throw it up in a messy bun and call it a day to save time.

But lately I’ve been so bored with my look. I went down a massive Pinterest rabbit hole last night looking for fresh ideas. Because you know how it is, you want a change but you definitely don’t want to chop it all off.

Long layered haircut

Let’s kick things off with an absolute classic. A long layered haircut is basically the holy grail if you have thick, heavy native hair like me. My hair gets so weighed down at the roots if it is all one solid length. It literally gives me a headache by the afternoon from the sheer weight of it. Getting layers cut in changes everything. It gives your hair so much movement and bounce. Plus it makes it way easier to style when you’re rushing in the morning. You can just scrunch some texturizing spray in there and it actually holds a shape instead of just hanging flat. I forced my sister to get layers last month because her hair was just dragging her whole face down, and it looks so insanely good on her now. You definitely need to ask your stylist for seamless, blended layers though, so it doesn’t look like harsh steps cut into your hair.

Long straight sleek hairstyle

I mean, who doesn’t love looking super expensive? A long straight sleek hairstyle just screams that you have your life completely put together, even if you are literally falling apart on the inside. It is so glossy and chic and always looks intentional. But let’s be totally honest, getting my hair this straight requires a solid hour and at least half a bottle of expensive heat protectant spray. My hair naturally has this weird confused wave to it, so keeping it perfectly sleek is an actual workout for my arms. But when you get it right, it is absolutely stunning. I tried to rock this exact look for a date last summer. I spent ages flat ironing it to perfection in my apartment. Then we decided to eat outside on the patio and the evening humidity just instantly turned my sleek look into a giant frizz ball. So yeah, maybe check the weather app before committing to this one! But on a crisp, dry day? It is totally unbeatable.

Long wavy hairstyle

This is honestly my go-to everyday look. It just looks so effortless and cool. You look like you just came from the beach, even if you have been sitting at a desk looking at spreadsheets all day long. The best part is that you don’t even need heat to get this look if you prep it right. Sometimes I just French braid my hair while it’s slightly damp, sleep on it, and wake up with the perfect long wavy hairstyle. It is the ultimate lazy girl styling hack. It also hides split ends really well if you are currently avoiding the salon like I usually am. If you want to make it look a little more polished for a night out, you can just take a curling wand to a few random pieces around your face to give it more definition. It never fails to look amazing.

Long curly hairstyle

Okay, we really need to talk about long curly hairstyles because they are just so breathtaking and I feel like people are finally embracing their natural texture. If you have natural curls, please stop hiding them behind a flat iron! I always get so jealous of girls with perfect bouncy ringlets. This pin is just gorgeous and makes me wish my hair would spiral like that. Taking care of long curls is definitely a full time job, but the payoff is incredible. You have to find the exact right gel or cream that gives you definition without making your hair look crunchy or wet. My best friend has hair exactly like this and her wash day routine is literally a science experiment with all her different products and diffusers. But when she walks into a room with her curls bouncing, everybody literally stops to look. It is just so vibrant and full of life.

Long hair with curtain bangs

Curtain bangs have had me in a total chokehold for like two years now and I refuse to let go. They are just so universally flattering on almost everyone. I think they are the perfect way to change up your look without losing any of your hard-earned length. They frame your face so beautifully and give you that cool retro 70s vibe. But I have to warn you. Do not try to cut them yourself. Please learn from my terrible mistakes. In my sophomore year of college, I got dumped right before midterms. I was standing in my dorm bathroom with cheap kitchen scissors at 2 AM thinking curtain bangs would fix my broken heart. They did not fix anything. I looked like a little boy from the 1800s for months until they grew out. Always go to a professional! When cut right, they are absolute magic and they grow out so easily without that awkward blunt bang phase.

Long hair with face-framing layers

If you are too scared to commit to actual bangs, face-framing layers are absolutely the way to go. They are so soft and pretty. I love how they highlight your cheekbones and jawline without being too in-your-face about it. When you pull your hair up into a claw clip or a high ponytail, these little pieces just fall perfectly around your face and make the whole style look intentional instead of messy. It is such a subtle little detail but it totally transforms a regular boring haircut into something super special.

Long shag haircut

This one is strictly for my girls who want a little bit of edge in their lives. The long shag haircut is so cool and rock and roll. It has all these choppy, disconnected layers and usually features a really messy textured fringe. It is basically the exact opposite of the sleek look, and that is exactly why I love it. You can literally just wake up, shake it out with your hands, and you look like you are the lead singer in an indie band. It is very much that cool-girl aesthetic that we all try to achieve. I feel like this cut works exceptionally well with natural texture too.

Long hair with side part

I know the internet had a whole dramatic war about side parts versus middle parts a while ago, but honestly? A side part with long hair is so incredibly glamorous. It gives you all this volume at the roots and swoops over your eye in a really mysterious, flirty way.

Long hair with middle part

But then again, the middle part is a classic for a very good reason. For me, a middle part just feels super comforting and like home. Growing up, my Auntie would always part my hair straight down the middle and pull it into two tight, perfectly even braids before any big family gathering or powwow weekend.

Long hair with soft curls

Soft curls are just so undeniably romantic and pretty. This isn’t about those tight, perfect prom ringlets from 2010. It is much more about big, gently brushed-out waves that look incredibly soft to the touch. This is my absolute favorite look for attending a wedding or going to a really fancy dinner. You just use a large barrel curling iron, curl everything away from your face, let it cool completely, and then gently brush it out with a boar bristle brush.

Long choppy layers

If your hair is super thick and you feel like it is just hanging there like a heavy winter blanket, choppy layers will honestly save your life.

Long hair with feathered layers

We are ending this list with a major aesthetic throwback. Feathered layers are making such a huge comeback right now and I am completely here for it. It is very Farrah Fawcett but updated and modernized for right now. The layers are specifically cut so they naturally flip back away from your face, creating all this gorgeous, sweeping movement. It is super airy and light compared to a blunt cut.
