Okay, let’s talk about the absolute chokehold coquette hairstyles have on me right now. Seriously, I used to just throw my hair in a messy bun and call it a day, but lately I am totally obsessed with all things bows, ribbons, and soft curls.
It is giving major feminine energy, and I am so here for it. If you haven’t tried adding a cute little velvet ribbon to your everyday look, you are honestly missing out. It transforms even the most basic outfit into something straight out of a Pinterest dream board. I spent way too many hours scrolling late last night, hunting down the absolute best inspiration for us to try.
Soft coquette waves
These waves are basically the ultimate gateway into this whole aesthetic. You literally just need a wide barrel curling iron and a little bit of patience to make this happen. I feel like whenever you try to curl your hair, it either ends up looking like tight little Shirley Temple ringlets or it just falls completely flat within ten minutes. But the trick here is brushing them out while they are still just a tiny bit warm. You want them to look soft and touchable, not crunchy with hairspray. I love doing this look on a Sunday morning when I am just going to grab an iced coffee and wander around the farmer’s market. It makes you feel so pretty with literally minimal effort.
Romantic ribbon braid
I actually tried doing this specific braid last week and it was a whole journey. I was getting ready for a coffee date with this guy I met on Hinge, and I thought weaving a pink satin ribbon into my braid would look so effortless. Honestly, the first two attempts looked like a tangled shoelace. I was sweating in my bathroom and almost gave up. But the third time? Pure magic. It looked so incredibly cute and he actually complimented my hair right when I walked into the cafe. You just have to tie the ribbon at the top of your hair tie and treat it like one of the three strands of hair while you braid down. It is such a simple hack but it looks so fancy.
Delicate half-up curls
If you are going for that true sweet and innocent vibe, this delicate half-up situation is a massive must-try. It is perfect for those days when your hair is acting a little crazy on the top but the bottom half still looks decent. You just take the front sections and pin them back gently. I usually leave a few little pieces framing my face so it doesn’t look too harsh. Sometimes I will add a tiny little claw clip shaped like a butterfly or a flower right in the back. It just holds everything together and adds a little extra something.
Vintage-inspired loose bun
Sometimes I just want my hair completely out of my face but I still want to look chic and put together. This look totally hits that exact sweet spot. It fits so perfectly into the whole vibe of vintage hairstyles that we have been seeing literally everywhere this season. You want to make sure the bun isn’t too tight, so just loosely gather your hair at the nape of your neck and secure it with a few bobby pins. Let those little flyaways do their thing because it adds to the whole messy but elegant charm. I wear my hair like this to work all the time when I am running late but still need to look like an adult.
Playful curtain bangs look
Curtain bangs literally changed my entire life. I am not even being dramatic. Before I got them cut, my hair just hung there like a heavy blanket. But now, styling them into this playful little swoop is my favorite part of getting ready. You definitely need a good round brush and a blow dryer to get that perfect flick away from your face. Once you master the wrist flick motion, it is totally game over. They frame your eyes so beautifully and make every single updo look a hundred times better. Just be warned that they require trims like every month, which is kind of annoying but so worth it.
Feminine pearl clip updo
Pearls are definitely not just for your grandma anymore. Adding a pearl clip to a simple updo makes it look so incredibly elegant and expensive. I found a huge pack of these pearl pins online for literally five dollars and I have been sticking them in my hair constantly. You can just twist your hair up into a French twist and slide the clip in to secure it. It is perfect for a nice dinner out or even a wedding. It catches the light so beautifully and just makes you feel like you are in a romantic movie.
Whimsical braided pigtails
Okay, I know what you are thinking. Braided pigtails can sometimes feel a little too middle school or juvenile, but these are totally different. They actually give me major boho hairstyles energy, just with a much sweeter and softer twist. The key is to pull the braids apart once you tie them so they look thick and messy instead of tight and perfect. I love wearing this style when I am wearing a flowy sundress or an oversized knit sweater. It is just super playful and keeps your hair out of the way if you are going to be outside in the wind.
Elegant side-swept curls
This look is strictly for when you want to look incredibly fancy and steal all the attention in the room. I actually wore my hair exactly like this to my cousin’s wedding reception last month. I spent an entire hour pinning it heavily to one side, and let me tell you, it stayed put through three hours of aggressive dancing on the dance floor. You have to use a good amount of texturizing spray to give the curls some grip so they don’t just slide out of the pins. It is such a glamorous Hollywood vibe and makes your neck look super long and elegant.
Charming lace headband style
Lace headbands are my new favorite lazy girl hack. When my roots are looking a little crazy and I absolutely refuse to wash my hair, a wide lace headband is my saving grace. You literally just pop it on and suddenly you look like you planned this whole intricate cottagecore outfit.
Flirty layered waves
Layers just add so much natural movement to your hair. If you have fine hair like I do, getting some soft layers cut in will change everything for you. Instead, it creates this beautiful, bouncy, flirty texture that looks super voluminous. I like to use a texturizing paste just on the very ends of my layers to piece them out and make them look a bit more lived-in. It is the perfect everyday look that transitions so well from daytime to a night out with your friends.
Dreamy low ponytail with bow
This right here is the absolute holy grail of this trend. It honestly reminds me of those gorgeous princess hairstyles we all obsessed over when we were little girls wanting to live in a castle. It is so ridiculously simple but the impact is huge.
Classic soft blowout
You can never, ever go wrong with a classic soft blowout. It is the ultimate foundation for looking polished. I once had a totally tragic situation with a blowout though. I was rushing to get ready for a big job interview and I got my round brush completely stuck in my front layers. Absolute nightmare panic attack. I literally had to sit on my bathroom floor and slowly untangle it for twenty minutes, and I ended up ripping out a tiny chunk of hair. I cried so much.
Girly twisted half-up hairstyle
This one is just simple and perfect for a casual Tuesday when you still want to look cute.
Graceful loose braid with tendrils
We are finishing strong with this gorgeous loose braid. The key to making a braid look soft and romantic instead of severe is all in the tendrils. You have to pull out a few face-framing pieces and maybe even curl them slightly with a flat iron. I like to braid my hair over one shoulder and let it just drape casually. It is such a soft, angelic look that pairs perfectly with all the lace tops and slip dresses we are wearing right now.
